Refreshment Rooms

My niece Claire was driving over from Manchester to my house on her own for the first time to share some quality Auntie Kath time together.  I wanted to take her somewhere new for a pub lunch. I asked one of my taxi drivers where he would recommend & he suggested Refreshment Rooms at New Ferry.  I didn’t even know where New Ferry was so I put the postcode into my car sat nav & set to off to  do some research.

What I found was completely unexpected … tucked away round the tight little corner all of a sudden I came into a whole new world !

It’s the ideal place for my photography …  with its ever changing big skies, different tides, the little beach with its turquoise Titanic graffiti boat & Rock Park magnificent mansions.

There’s so much going on in one perfect place. River Mersey activity varies from ocean liners to tug boats to yachts, dinghies & kayaks. Lots of estuary birds and magical early morning sunrises in addition to the Liverpool city waterfront views complete the photogenic setting.

By the end of 2017 I knew I had found a key social place where I felt calm and comfortable enough to enjoy meals with the people who matter to me most :

  • niece Claire / sunday lunch
  • Martin Mark & Claire / after my dog Tess died
  • Martin Mark Claire Kim Danni Jo & Phil / my 60th birthday Saturday lunch
  • nephew Mark / declutter house help
  • midweek Marj & Phil / meet for over 60’s x2 course lunch

I like Refreshment Rooms for it’s

  1. Victorian history & heritage
  2. Quirky eclectic mix of old photos & nautical artefacts
  3. Big portions & take home tubs
  4. x3 different rooms
  5. Over 60’s x2 course lunch
  6. vintage photo menu book
  7. Quiet 12.00 p.m. lunchtime slot
  8. Variety of food & special deals
  9. menu art boards
  10. Wooden furniture & floors

Good times … good food … good views

My 62nd birthday

I had been unwell , anxious & stressed out for most of July (Wimbledon / Teacher Breakdown webpage) August losing Suki cat & big garden fence project September PIP. I knew that if i could just hang on in there things would start to turn for the better I knew I had to reconnect with Refreshment Rooms solo somehow so I went for a quiet sunday breakfast. I felt calm & safe & the staff were lovely.

By the end of September I was in a much better headplace so with encouragement from my psychiatrist I started to put a family plan regarding my birthday into place…
