I was born to be a sporty girl. I have a keen sports brain . Sport is & always has been a huge part of my life. I come from a tennis family who all support Bolton Wanderers football club. All my friends are sporty … either tennis / golf / football / rugby . My career as a Physical Education teacher for 25yrs gave me much to be proud of.
School
I won my first athletics sprint race aged 5 yrs and still remember the thrill of coming first! My grammar school years were when I started to shine … so proud to represent Canon Slade school in inter school matches every year in hockey/tennis / rounders / athletics. I was tall, fast & strong … very competitive & a natural leader. I was pleased to be made York house captain for the annual inter house competitions = swim / athletics / tennis / hockey / rounders. All my lunchtimes were spent doing team practices & after school and Saturday morning matches were a weekly routine.
alongside was being a member of the local tennis club with my dad and brother Martin. playing in the annual Bolton Charity tennis tournament/ being coached & competing in the Lostock tournament and thoroughly enjoyed starting to win trophies , prizes and even £ money. I played evening matches in the adult tennis league . Losing was not easy to take but had to learn to deal with it. My dad took me to sunday county coaching sessions on his only day off from shopkeeping
